In 1981, the Indian River Chapter of the Florida Trail Association first brought hikers together along the Space Coast. Responsible for lengthy stretches of the Florida Trail through the eastern edge of Osceola County, the chapter is best known for its friendly, outgoing hospitality, inviting our fellow hikers to socialize at our chapter’s screen room during annual and regional conferences.
Among our membership, we proudly count two former Florida Trail Association presidents, Karl Eichorn and Ernie Baldini. Notable trail builder Ashby Box, who planned the Kissimmee section of the trail, and activity leader extraordinare, Bob Atwater, have since passed on, but our energetic activity leaders continue to lead hikes, paddling trips, birding walks, and maintenance trips along the trail as well as regularly scheduled events like the Annual Easter Egg Hike, which always kicks off at the Viera McDonalds at 9 AM on Easter Sunday.
